Training Description Summary:
Free IT training program for individuals with a qualifying disability. Peckham, Inc. has a partnership with Goodwill Industries to instruct a short-term, 16-week, CompTIA A+ certification training course in Grand Rapids, MI. The class meets 2 times weekly, 4 hours each session including hands on lab and classroom time. Upon course completion, individuals will have the opportunity to take the 901 and 902 exams. Passing these exams will result in receiving the A+ Certification.
This training does not guarantee you a job, however, certified graduates may be eligible to apply for a Tier 1 Technical Service Representative in the Grand Rapids call center if Peckham is hiring at the time of completion.
This training opportunity is part of Peckham s vocational rehabilitation training program. People with disabilities will get preference in the selection process.
CompTIA certifications are industry-leading credentials developed to assist you in starting and growing within your IT career. The A+ is the industry standard for establishing a career in IT and a globally recognized credential. It is the preferred qualifying credential for technical support and IT operational roles.
You will master nine skills within the A+ training:
Hardware Identify, use, and connect hardware components and devices Networking Explain types of networks and connections Mobile Devices Install and configure laptops and other mobile devices Windows Operating Systems Install and support Windows OS Hardware and Networking Troubleshooting Other Operating Systems and Technologies Software Troubleshooting Troubleshoot PC and mobile device issues Security Identify and protect against security weakness for devices and networks Operational Procedures Follow best practices for safety, environmental impacts, and communication and professionalism

This opportunity will require a commitment to attend all class sessions. The A+ certification is valid for 3 years and the trainee will be responsible for taking steps to maintain the certification before the expiration date.
Many opportunities through the Business Services Division require a background check or security clearance. Qualifications: Individuals must be willing to commit to the 16-week training course, study course materials, complete assignments, attend all class sessions, and study and take final exams.
Language Skills:Ability to read and comprehend training course materials. Additionally, possess the ability to speak and write clearly and effectively to the extent necessary for the course.
Mathematical Skills:Ability to calculate figures and amounts and have the ability to apply concepts of basic math.
Reasoning Ability:Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form and the ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Physical Demands:The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an individual in the training. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Individuals will be required to be mobile throughout the building. Specific vision abilities required during this training include peripheral vision, and depth perception.
Work Environment: The training facility is within a universally designed building with an open environment that provides natural light throughout work areas.
